RIBEAUVILLÉ ("Rappschwihr" into Alsatian) is a charming medieval city of 5000 inhabitants, one of the nicest ancient historic towns in Alsace, and where it makes good things in life. Ribeauvillé is also a Sous-Préfecture of Haut-Rhin and situated right in the heart of the Alsatian vineyards.

The Gite Alsacien is located right in the heart of the medieval city of Ribeauvillé, a short walk from the shops.

You'll stay in a charming traditional barrel-maker's house (classed as an historic building) which dates back to 1578, in the very heart of the mediaeval wine-growing town of Ribeauvillé, which is surrounded by lush green countryside with flowers and vineyards where the sun shines for more than 142 days a year.

The recently updated Gîte Alsatien is at equal distances from Colmar and Sélestat and halfway between Strasbourg and Mulhouse. There is a free car park opposite our entrance. You will receive a warm and personal welcome in an historic house close to the centre of Ribeauvillé in an ideal location for exploring Alsace. Relax in the calm atmosphere of our charming courtyard in the heart of the mediaeval town and enjoy a holiday, "Made in Alsace".

Come and discover or rediscover the authentic charm of Alsace with its 400 mediaeval castles, its 200 museums, its 18,000km of walking and hiking paths and its 2,000km of cycle tracks. All of this plus the triple French, Germanic and Alsatian heritage all around you will reward you with a fascinating and absorbing experience.

You'll stay in a charming, traditional barrel-maker's house which dates back to 1578 (and is classed as a historic building), surrounded by lush, green countryside, flowers and vineyards, while at the same time living in the earth of the medieval wine-growing town of Ribeauvillé.
We're situated within a stone's throw from the shops and services (including bakeries, restaurants, boutiques, a cinema, and swimming-pools).
We're also barely 60 yards from the nearest free car park (and there are about 200 parking spaces near our house).
Our house is built in a typical Alsatian style, and has been completely refurbished.

A warm and personal welcome, in an authentic house close to the centre of town, and in an ideal geographical location (A35 motorway exit 3 Km away) (Right in the middle of Alsace, Route des Vins/ Wine Route, near the Swiss and German borders), beauty spots, places to visit, walks, chateaux, animal parks, swimming pools, concerts, museums, village, festivals, gastronomy, ... .
Within our traditional, lovingly restored house (built in 1578), we have several different types of apartment, all quiet, comfortable and well equipped, not forgetting of course our charming, sunlit courtyard (350 m2) where you can take your meals or let yourself dream the time away (there are garden tables, chairs and parasols).

Don't forget either that Ribeauvillé has two swimming pools, a cinema, a new casino, and numerous hiking and mountain bike trails across the vineyards, forests and the Ried plain. Our 16th century house is the ideal base to explore the real Alsace:

Museums: the Railway Museum, the Schlumpf Car Collection, the Museum of Alsace,...
Castles : Ribeauvillé's three castles (why not take a 9Km walk between the castles through forest and vineyards ?),
Haut-Koenigsbourg Castle, Fleckenstein Castle, Hohlandsbourg Castle,....
And also the European parliament in Strasbourg, the Bioscope and the Eco-museum at Ungersheim, and the Maginot Line.

For our golfing friends staying at Gite Alsacien, we can offer you a 20% green fee discount at Ammerschwihr golf course, and we can get you a discount at the Lac Blanc Ski ressort (Downhill skiing, snowshoe walks, cross-country skiing).
We offer private parking to our motorbiking guests.

The history of our house, "Le gîte Alsacien":
We freely admit that our house choose us, and it was love at first sight for a real Alsatian property with a rich history.
Its first inhabitant was a barrel-maker, and in 1578 he probably showed the people of Ribeauvillé his skills and craftsmanship.
We can still hear the sound of the horses' hooves as they pull the barrel-laden cart over our cobbled courtyard.
