Manoir de Barayre Indulge yourself in the atmosphere of a 15th Century French Chateau: thick stone walls with heavy oak doors and original parquet floors. The ancient well in the courtyard tells of days long gone by. In just a few words: a superb building with an authentic aura. The magnificent Manoir de Barayre is quietly set in an expansive, undulating scenery. The almost fifty acres are partly grazed by cows and horses with their young. There are numerous beautiful spots for worshippers of both sun and shade. The property also boasts a small lake where in the springtime the frogs sing to their hearts’ content.
And culture? Everywhere around you! Pay a visit to fortified towns like Monflanquin (where mid August mediaeval festivities take place), Villeneuve-sur-Lot or to Villeréal ( where one finds the supermarket Intermarché) with its arcades and restaurants. Or do your shopping at the local colourful markets redolent with fragrances! The active holiday maker finds an 18 hole golf course “La Menuisiere” in a beautiful hilly setting with fruit trees.
You’re looking for something closer to home? Then take a dip in the pool, or laze away the time in a recliner in the shadow of the immense trees in the park like gardens. A brisk hike in the vicinity is also an option and on the way one always finds something edible: wild strawberries, blackberries, figs etc…… At the end of the day you can collapse with a good book and a good claret before the open fire. Now the stories about knights, fair damsels and noblemen come into their own.
